Digital Citizenship

Digital citizenship is a concept that helps teachers, education leaders, and parents to understand and navigate how to help students use technology appropriately. According to Mike Ribble (2016), digital citizenship is composed of nine elements: digital security (self-protection), digital communication, digital literacy, digital etiquette, digital law, digital rights and responsibility, digital health and wellness, digital access, and digital commerce. For the purposes of this book, the following elements are covered, as they relate to digital writing with English language learners: digital security, digital communication, digital literacy, and digital etiquette.
